A few years ago a friend of mine traveled to Southeast Asia.  From time to time I would see pictures that he posted on social media and I would think to myself, “I want to do that, I want to also travel to SE Asia”.  As far back as several decades, I can remember wanting to travel to Vietnam.  From the first time I saw the 80’s Vietnam war movies, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket I have always been fascinated by this region and wanted to visit.  I love asian food.  I think asian women are beautiful.  The culture of buddhism and eating mostly healthy foods is inspiring.  There are many reasons that I am drawn to where I am at this very moment.

I am sitting in a coffee shop in Tam Coc…a small city several miles from the larger town of Ninh Binh.  Tam Coc is small touristic town that supports the groups of travelers that come to float along the myriad of rivers and streams in the area and to appreciate the big limestone mountains pushing out of the vast fields of rice.  Some refer to the area as the mainland version of Halong bay.
